week 1-BANKSY_context

From one of the many works from the famous and controversial street artist "Banksy" who is also my practitioner I chose to write my essay about .I decided to use this piece 'The man and his flowers".

"I like the idea of how he portrays this man who looks like a criminal holding beautiful flowers instead of a bomb or weaponry".

Although the man is in only black and white, It kinda represents a nation of suffering, and not just himself because of the use of colour used on this man. I find the black and white doesn't really stand out, rather giving that idea of him trying to blend in with a crowd of rebels raging riots in communities because of the suffering from political and government issues.

also his idea of flowers rather than a bomb i found was just pure genius . the flowers are in colour rather than black and white like the man shown in the image. to me it represents him not trying to throw a bomb and creating more controversy, but it symbolizes him trying to throw and create peace, to stop the violence happening around the world.

  1. Hey Junior,

You are supposed to be in Rebecca's group but never mind, I will pass on the mark for this entry to her.

In your essay you might want to think about some historical juxtapositions of flowers and weaponry, eg. Bernie Boston's photo "Flower Power" from the 1960s of protesters putting flowers into the barrels of rifles pointing right at them. Shepheard Fairey has also used this kind of imagery.
