week 1-BANKSY_context
From one of the many works from the famous and controversial street artist "Banksy" who is also my practitioner I chose to write my essay about .I decided to use this piece 'The man and his flowers".
"I like the idea of how he portrays this man who looks like a criminal holding beautiful flowers instead of a bomb or weaponry".
Although the man is in only black and white, It kinda represents a nation of suffering, and not just himself because of the use of colour used on this man. I find the black and white doesn't really stand out, rather giving that idea of him trying to blend in with a crowd of rebels raging riots in communities because of the suffering from political and government issues.
also his idea of flowers rather than a bomb i found was just pure genius . the flowers are in colour rather than black and white like the man shown in the image. to me it represents him not trying to throw a bomb and creating more controversy, but it symbolizes him trying to throw and create peace, to stop the violence happening around the world.

Alphonse Mucha - "Gismonda", 1895 (Group 2)
This images was a poster that Mucha made to advertise a play. This was the image that catapulted him into fame. The woman in the poster is a french actress called Sarah Bernhardt.
Q Bajac et al. sum up her effect on Mucha perfectly; "Her extraordinary personality had the effect of maturing the artist's style remarkably, as until he produced rather academic, conventional works. Mucha became successful because he was able to project how Bernhardt wished to be perceived." Reference in comments.
